What does a dental bridge do?
A bridge (sometimes referred to as a fixed bridge) is a dental restoration that is used to fill the space left by a missing tooth. Its purpose is to restore the appearance of your smile and provide you with a functional replacement tooth.
At Moore Family Dentistry, we create bridges that are durable and blend perfectly with surrounding teeth. Once your dental bridge is placed, it should provide you with many years of service.
A dental bridge is a unit that is usually made up of three or more parts – an artificial tooth (a pontic) and dental crowns that are affixed to the teeth either side of the missing tooth to hold the pontic in place. In some cases, we may also recommend using a dental implant to retain and add stability to the bridge.
Having a dental bridge placed usually requires just two visits to Moore Family Dentistry. During the first appointment we prepare the teeth for crowns, take impressions, and send them to our dental lab, where your permanent bridge is custom-crafted.
You will be fitted with a temporary crown to wear until your final bridge is finished – about two weeks. When your permanent bridge is finished, you return to our office, and we make any adjustments necessary and cement the bridge in place permanently.
Dr. Moore has extensive experience and expertise in creating and placing beautiful, functional bridges. Contact us for more information or to schedule an appointment.
