I'm so scared of dentists that I put off appointments. Is this normal?
Acute fear of dental treatments is more common than you might think. Some studies suggest that as many as 30 million people in the U.S. feel the same way you do about dental treatment.
Most people can manage their dental anxiety, but others are so terrified of dental visits that they actually sacrifice their oral health by completely avoiding any dental treatment. In reality, most dental procedures are not painful or complicated. But for those with dental phobia, just entering a dentist’s office can result in extreme fear and tension.
Dentists have come to realize that effective sedation techniques are the only way to deliver the important treatment that phobic patients need. The first step is to make an appointment for a consultation so that you can talk to Dr. Moore about your fears prior to treatment. Often, just opening up to your dentist about your concerns can reduce much of your anxiety.
Once we understand more about the source and extent of your fear, we can take the proper steps to make sure that we provide the level of sedation that is most appropriate for you. If you’ve been putting off dental treatment because of unnatural anxiety, you are certainly not alone.
Please contact our Pelham dental office, and a compassionate member of our team will be happy to make an appointment to discuss your concerns with Dr. Moore. Together we can conquer your fears so that you can get the help you need.
