How do I know if I have gum disease?
It is important for you to know the warning signs of gum disease. This is an infection that can cause serious damage, not just to your oral health, but to your general health as well.
It is estimated that half of all adults over the age of 30 suffer from some extent of periodontal (gum) disease. That is why Pelham dentist, Dr. Spencer Moore, spends so much time talking to our patients about proper oral hygiene and preventive services like regular exams and professional dental cleanings.
Some of the warning signs you may notice if you have periodontal disease are:
- Bleeding gums
- Loose teeth
- Tenderness of gums
- Chronic bad breath
These are only some of the symptoms of periodontal disease, and you should be aware that the infection does not always present any symptoms at all. This is why we strongly advocate regular professional cleanings with one of our dental hygienists.
During these cleanings, the hygienist will also examine your teeth and gums to determine if any gum disease is present. If signs of the disease are found, we will recommend a special deep cleaning to remove the infection before it can do any long-term damage.
At Moore Family Dentistry, we want you to keep your teeth healthy and functional for as long as possible. Regular dental cleanings and exams are your best insurance against serious damage that can seriously impact your long-term oral health.
