Can everyone have dental implants?
Every treatment does not always work for every patient and dental implants are no exception. Today, more patients than ever can qualify for dental implants thanks to recent technology such as bone grafting, sinus lifts, nerve relocation, and mini-implants. Just because you do not meet the qualifications right away does not mean that we have to rule out dental implants entirely.
Dental implants are one of the best ways to replace missing teeth and to support dentures to improve how they fit. For successful implants, we need to make sure you have enough bone to retain them. We can do a few diagnostic images to make sure that your dental implants will remain secure and heal properly.
We also need to check the medications that you take. Certain medications such as bisphosphonates can make it difficult for your bones to heal. We approach these situations on a case-by-case basis because each of our patients has a unique health history.
Certain lifestyle habits can make healing from surgery more difficult. For example, smokers may not heal as quickly as nonsmokers. We cannot place implants if you suffer from serious periodontal disease and will need to treat that condition prior to moving forward with dental implants.
If you want to know if dental implants will work for you, and set up an evaluation. We look forward to hearing from you.
